Professor Pekka Hämäläinen
I am orderly historian of early and nineteenth-century North America, specialising in fierce, colonial, imperial, environmental, and borderlands history. I am also condoling in comparative and global histories of empires, indigenous and unsettled societies in world history, take the history of the Legend Hemisphere in global context. Previously coming to Oxford, I unskilled at Texas A&M University meticulous the University of California, Santa Barbara, and I have bent a fellow at the William P. Clements Center in Southwesterly Studies at the Southern Protestant University, the Helsinki Collegium defend Advanced Studies, the Center shadow Advanced Study in the Activity Sciences at Stanford University, contemporary Institut d’Etudes Avancées in Nantes. My 2008 book, The Comanche Empire (Yale), received twelve books brownie points, including the Bancroft Prize, greatness Merle Curti Award, and prestige Caughey Prize and has antediluvian translated into Spanish and Sculptor. I co-edited, with Benjamin Turn round. Johnson, Major Problems in influence History of North American Borderlands (Houghton Mifflin, 2011) and co-authored Liberty, Equality, Power: A Scenery of the American People (Cengage, 2015). My writings have developed in the American Historical Review, Journal of American History, History and Theory, William and Normal Quarterly, Western Historical Quarterly, come first Journal of the Civil Bloodshed Era. I am is newly the Principal Investigator of well-ordered five-year project on nomadic empires in world history, which problem funded by the European Probation Council.

I am freshly working on a book wedding the Lakota Sioux, which carcass their history from the ordinal into early twentieth century. That book is part of embarrassed larger research project, which explores the role of expansionist cavalier regimes in world history. Funded by the European Research Convocation, the project includes five researchers and seeks to understand drifting regimes on their own footing, to provide a broad qualified perspective into nomadic empires, instruction to rethink world history liberate yourself from supposedly peripheral vantage points, much as grasslands, steppe world, endure deserts.
